Training with diverse learning objectives

One advantage of business IT specialists is that they have a sound knowledge of business administration and specific expertise in computer science as well as in business and information engineering. Thanks to these broad-based skills, you will be able to exert influence in a wide variety of areas of your company after the programme. In this way, you clarify simple legal questions independently, create project documentation and advise user groups. You conduct evaluation projects, evaluate the results and initiate the next steps. As a supervisor, you lead your employees and monitor the work in the projects. Thanks to the practice-oriented training, you also implement challenging tasks in the IT environment.

Computer science and economics combined

During the Dipl. Wirtschaftsinformatiker HF programme to become a certified business IT specialist, you will not only acquire skills relating to business and IT, but also to other subject areas. You will acquire key skills in the areas of communication and management, and basic skills in business administration, law and mathematics and statistics. The IT competences cover:

  • Quality management
  • IT security and risk management
  • Service management

These competences are then linked in various networking modules with higher-level topics such as compliance, sustainability, equality, health and safety at work and work-life balance. In order to best apply the acquired skills in practice, various relevant project and transfer work is carried out during the main part of the programme.

Can I start directly in the fourth semester?

In order for you to be able to start this business and information technology degree directly in the main part of the study programme, prior specialist knowledge is necessary. You must have previously completed a course in higher vocational education in information technology: With the degree in business and information technology with a federal diploma, you have already completed the contents of the basic studies. These achievements will then be credited to you and direct entry into the fourth semester of training (main course) to become a Dipl. Wirtschaftsinformatiker HF is thus possible. Depending on your qualifications and experience, additional prerequisite courses may be required.

Part-time to the higher federal qualification

Thanks to its clear structure and modular design, the IBAW’s concept offers you the option of completing the programme as a complete course of study or in stages. The programme to become a Dipl. Wirtschaftsinformatiker HF can therefore be combined with your individual needs. Even if you are involved in competitive sports, have a busy job or intensive family commitments, you can still train to become a business and information technology specialist.

The main study programme is very practice-oriented, and a skills portfolio is built up in the course of the programme. This means if you do the course while working, you can immediately apply what you have learned.

From business and information technology to a bachelor's degree

The Dipl. Wirtschaftsinformatiker HF qualification gives you examination-free access to higher semesters of bachelor courses at several universities of applied sciences and to various postgraduate courses. For example, you can enter the bachelor’s programme in Business Information Technology in the 4th or 5th semester. Other follow-up options are:

Financial support from the canton

All cantons make financial contributions to the higher technical college courses at the IBAW within the framework of the intercantonal technical college agreement. The tuition fee amounts to CHF 14,000 for aspiring business information technology HF graduates with a non-scholarship residence in Switzerland.

The amount of the cantonal contributions is reviewed every two years and redefined by the EDK. Accordingly, the amount of the contribution rate can change (both upwards and downwards) during the programme.
