Cost sharing for IBAW further education courses

Recognised further education courses can be cost-intensive. The good news is that support is available.

Students enrolled in courses at colleges of higher vocational education and training (Höhere Fachschulen HF) are entitled to cantonal funding under the Intercantonal Agreement on Subsidies for Courses at Colleges of Higher Vocational Education and Training (HFSV).

Participants in further education courses preparing for a federal vocational examination are entitled to federal reimbursement of 50 per cent of the eligible participation fee.

Participants in further education courses offered by educational institutions in the Canton of Geneva receive an annual education cheque (Chèque Annuel de Formation CAF) from the Canton of Geneva.

Graduates of fide modules benefit under certain conditions from subsidies from the Cantons of Fribourg, Lucerne, Zug and Bern.

Cantonal subsidies for courses at colleges of higher vocational education and training

Which IBAW further education courses are eligible for subsidies?

  • Diploma Business Management Specialist, HF
  • Diploma Business Informatics Specialist, HF
  • Diploma Technician, HF in Informatics (ICT Systems Technology)

How much are the subsidies?

The cantons that are parties to the HFSV determine the amount of the per-semester subsidy per student. These subsidies are determined on the basis of cost surveys at the colleges of higher vocational education and training.

What do graduates have to bear in mind?

To determine which canton is liable for payment, you will need to complete a personal data sheet before the start of your studies. You will receive this from IBAW after you register.

You must return the completed and signed personal data sheet to us together with a confirmation of residence no older than three months at the start of the programme. We will then forward your documents to the canton responsible for you for examination. If your application is approved, you will benefit from the reduced participation fee. Please note that the amount of the cantonal subsidy is reviewed every two years and redefined by the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK). The amount of the cantonal subsidy may therefore change during your further education course.
